What to Expect on Your First Visit

Brief Paperwork and Consultation

Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition.

Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options. In order to determine what your actual problem is, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition.

X-ray Examination

X-rays are taken on every new patient to determine the actual misalignment. This provides the doctor with proper information on how to adjust each patient.

Are X-Rays necessary?. It is important that certain X-rays are taken. To see is to know, to not see is to guess. An Atlas Orthogonist will never guess about your health. He has had extensive X-ray training and will never require X-ray studies which are not vital to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition.

Same Day Treatment

Once finished with the examination and all appropriate studies, patients will generally be provided with their first treatment during this same visit.

How is the Treatment Determined?

The treatment is decided upon after a thorough evaluation of the patient’s symptoms and prior health history. Combining that information with the results of any orthopedic, neurological chiropractic examination, leg measurements and X-ray studies, the doctor is able to pinpoint accurately the source of the problem and decide upon the best plan of health care.

Does it Hurt?

The Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction is painless and barely felt by the patient. Because of the precise X-ray analysis, a correction can be made without any forceful jerking or twisting movements.

After You Are Treated and Other FAQ's

Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or positions to avoid, as well as proper work ergonomics and sleeping position.
You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 2-3 days and are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time.

After the first Atlas Orthogonal spinal correction, you may experience a variety of changes within your body. These are due to the nervous system responding to the structural correction. Symptoms are a positive sign that healing is taking place. In order to heal, the body must go through different cycles of repair which very often express themselves in some of the following ways:

- Alleviation of symptoms

- Tiredness or sleepiness

- Muscle stiffness/Soreness

You should not be concerned if the pain changes or moves to another area of the body. Symptoms may decrease immediately. However, the amount of misalignment and severity of the condition will determine the recovery time. Please make the doctor aware of any and all changes. Remember, pain is a sign that the body is working, any changes can be part of the healing process.

Patients should expect their initial visit to last an hour and half to two hours. This is typically the longest visit due to paperwork, history, X-ray examination and treatment. Follow up visit typically last thirty to sixty minutes.

The accuracy of the procedure affords patients with longer lasting effects. While the atlas can lose its proper alignment, for most patients the procedure results in far fewer visits than most other procedures or techniques.
